RETHINKING THE BASICS

An unusual high traffic flow to one of my blog´s entries (Miss Universe 2007) in the last days made me think once again about the imperative necessity of rethinking some of our basic concepts.

I see no problem with people´s big interest in women´s beauty: I find it rather natural! The point is that the concept of beauty usually vindicated turns out to be at least, let´s say, deceptive. That is pretty much the case of many other common concepts such as happiness, love or sex, etc which normally tend to have both trivial and misleading acceptions.

The problem is not so much that by passively adopting those mainstream acceptions we literally miss the opportunity to experience these concepts real possibilities. The main issue is that these concepts as vindicated generally make us live a miserable life chock-full of doubts and problems easily avoidable otherwise.

The system does what it is expected to do according to its own inner logic. What it is not reasonable is to stop thinking for ourselves.

A friend of mine recently told me that by doing that we literally condemn ourselves to ostracism. I told her that human beings had never been lonelier than they are nowadays and that the worst possible solitude is shared solitude.

Great post my friend...
How right you are! We live among so many people and yet are alone! this is not a natural life...this is not the kind of life that modern civalization is supposed to bring! I live in an apartment complex where I don't know my neibours...Are we really so much better off than lets say, a few hundred years ago? I think not...we have cars, mobile phones, internet....this allows us to close ourselves neatly into little boxes...quietly consuming...keeping the corperate world oiled until we die! Filled with a sense of failure every time we turn on the bloody TV because we havn't got teeth a white as that god awful colgate add...
Fuck....now I'm depressed...A question, do you think cavemen had nervous breakdowns?
I think I'd better have a beer to help forget just what a God awful World us so called civilized people have created..
take care my friend..

Hey Kev bro! You are back: so cool!!

I do get depressed at times too! But I think that is a good symptom: it might mean that despite everything we haven´t been fully converted yet, that there´s still a human being inside us fighting and having a higher hope.

After all as somebody once said "one must still have chaos in one, to give birth to a
dancing star".

In the end that is pretty much my point: rethinking "the world" for ourselves might mean not just the rejection of the one and only identity, possibilities and destiny to which "others" say we are condemned but the first step of a long journey towards inner liberation, the precondition of any other form of liberation.

Cheers Bro!!
